Summary: Guest Services Volunteers help provide families at Ronald McDonald House with a pleasant and comfortable stay by assisting staff with the daily operations of the House and by providing support to the families as needed.

Reports to: Manager on Duty

Qualifications:

• Ability to deal with the public, staff and other volunteers in a helpful and supportive manner
• Understand and practice confidentiality
• Able to perform light housekeeping and office tasks
• Willing to share time, skills and interests
• Possess qualities of friendliness, dependability, tact, and flexibility
• Neat and clean appearance

Activities:

• Be a helpful and understanding listener, but not a counselor, to families
• Answer and/or direct incoming telephone calls and assist visitors
• Fill open rooms by notifying families on the Waiting List
• Perform guest orientation/House tour
• Clean and prepare vacant rooms for incoming families
• Clean common areas of House to ensure guest satisfaction
• Provide general assistance, service and support activities to all guests
• Perform daily house operations tasks as requested by staff
• Assist with special events, projects, fundraising and committee work

Schedule:

• Able to commit to at least two four-hour shifts per month for at least one year, being prompt and dependable
• Provide coverage or adequate notice to Coordinator of Volunteer Services, if unable to attend a scheduled shift
• Shifts are every day, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., 1 - 5 p.m., and 5 - 9 p.m.

Training:

• Initial interview and House tour with Coordinator of Volunteer Services
• Attend training session covering volunteer manual
• Shadow an experienced volunteer for two shifts of hands-on training
• Continuous learning through on-the-job experience
• Required in-service session once a year covering various topics
